We made it to LA bright and early Wednesday morning, without a hitch, praise the Lord! We picked up our rental car in record time, and were on our way! First stop: In and Out Burger. Yes, it was only 9:30am, but we were ready for lunch! And surprisingly enough, we weren’t the only ones! It was my first experience at In and Out, and it was pretty good – reminded me a lot of “Cook Out” in NC.
After “lunch,” we began our drive north to Thousand Oaks, to the Reagan Presidential library. The grounds were beautiful, and it was a truly touching experience. There is a reverent hush through the museum, and it made my heart long for another leader of his character and caliber. The miniature White House was on display, and for a girl who loves doll houses, this was a dream come true. Every single detail of the White House – every room, every chair, every picture – is exactly as it is in the White House. 60 feet of tiny little details. AMAZING.
From the White House we went to the Oval Room, then to Air Force 1. That’s right; the entire plane was on display INSIDE the library. We were able to actually walk on board, and experience the inner workings. While the technology was amusing and very 80’s, it was neat to see where our President held business while he was thousands of feet up in the air! One of the craziest facts we learned, is that the new Air Force 1 can hold THREE of Reagan’s planes. Amazing.
There was a Harley Davidson exhibit at the library, commemorating the relationship Reagan and Harley developed in the 80’s. Because of foreign companies like Honda and Kawasaki, domestic bikes were being priced out of the market. Reagan levied a tax against these foreign bikes, which helped save HD from bankruptcy, and made their bikes more accessible for Americans. Of course I had to get lots of pics for dad!
We drove back to the hotel in LA, and then went to dinner at the Warehouse at Marina Del Rey. Great meal, and a very cool place. Afterward we were super tired and couldn’t get to sleep fast enough!
