A New Year to Remember

Our New Year’s plans for 2010 included flying home from Jacksonville on December 31, spending New Year’s Eve at HOME, and then heading to Belton on New Year’s day after sleeping in our own bed for the first time in WEEKS. Mom and Dad were such troopers to wake up super early and take us to the airport at 5am. We kissed them goodbye, got some coffee, and settled in at the gate waiting for our flight. We loaded on time, and everything seemed to be going smoothly. We’d be home in just a few short hours!! The plane began backing out, and BUMP! Hmmm, that didn’t feel right. We sat there for a few more minutes, and sure enough the pilot comes on and says that one of the doors was not closed properly, and was damaged when we rolled back. We were going to have to get off the plane, and try to get another flight. Everyone swarmed the ticket counter when we got off, and quickly we found out that the next few flights were full. The only one we could get on was at 7:30 that night. We took it and called my folks to come pick us back up. The four of us went to see Sherlock Holmes (through which I was asleep 75% of the time!) and later that day took us back to the airport to say goodbye again, for real this time. We found it funny that our first New Year’s Eve meal as newlyweds consisted of ginger ale from the flight attendant and a bag of snacks I picked up from Starbucks earlier with a voucher from AA.

Happy New Year’s!!
